I Ain't Sayin' He A Gravedigga

I've been meaning to put my Survivor winner prediction on here so I've got some proof if it actually happens (I've predicted the winner from probably 5 seasons based on Episode 1.) Anyways, I think James the gravedigger is the chosen one.

Also, that chick that's all "I'm from NYC" (because we wouldn't know if she didn't say it 20467 times) is very obviously NOT from NYC. Saying things like "what's wrong with these people, I'm from NYC, and in NYC we don't say "great job," because I'm from NYC, and what's with all this teamwork stuff, we don't do that in NYC" could not make you sound any more like you were from a town in the middle of nowhere with a population of 92. Honey, we all know you moved to "NYC" two weeks ago so stop giving us a bad reputation and shut up already.

Speaking of "NYC," did you see that there's a girl from Queens on America's Next Top Model (and she's one of the prettier ones?) The one from New Hyde Park didn't make the finals last week (my town, seriously?!); being that she got cut, she's obviously from the Nassau side (oh snap!)

I've watched both episodes of Gossip Girl so far. I love how Dan is OC Seth down to everything except for his haircut. This show has been pretty predictable, but I am enjoying it nonetheless.

Just saw on ABC.com that they are streaming all of Grey's Anatomy season 3 for free! (well, I think it's all of them.) I haven't seen a one so this is exciting news. Hrmmm, wonder if they're streaming One Tree Hill online?

I forgot my cell phone at home today, I feel so liberated! In an unrelated note, I had a squished peanut butter and jelly sandwich for lunch and only have 14 cents on me, I'm starving!!

The Chemicals Between Us

I finally came out of my shell this weekend and went out. On Friday night, Ryan and I saw Gruff Rhys of Super Furry Animals at Hiro. First let me comment on this place - I went there in one of its opening weeks 2 years ago, I think for Cheeky Bastard though I'm not entirely sure. That was not in the main space which I had only walked through the once. This show was in the main room and my god it really is gorgeous! It's decorated all Japanese style from the lanterns to the seats, you'll have to go there to get the full effect.

So, the show was just Gruff with a Welsh folk singer, I forgot her name. I didn't know any of his solo stuff, and I'm very limited in Super Furries knowledge but every guy I've ever met whose seen the band live can't stop singing their praises so I'd figure I'd go. The show was really different. For a start, half the songs were in Welsh. They sat at a table with a bunch of different contraptions on it, they would make noises with them, record them and use those sounds to play behind the vocals. They were all weird things like a metronome and boxes that blasted electronic noises and stuff. He talked a lot too which was entertaining, plus he's got a nice voice. Very unique show, I recommend.

On Saturday I won tickets from Brooklyn Vegan to see the Chemical Brothers at McCarren Pool. I was super excited because although I'm not that into electronic music, CB were one of the groups I've always wanted to see live, figuring the atmosphere would be amazing (I've seen The Prodigy, Roni Size, and Underworld at festivals and loved them but there's always someone I like better up against the Chems and I keep missing them.) Also, there was no way I was paying $45 for a ticket, so thanks again BV!

My brother and I arrived at the end of Ladytron (only got to see 'Destroy Everything You Touch' - good for me though since it's one of only two songs of theirs that I know.) The DJs in between were The Rub, they were so good! At the end of the set they played a dance-version of 'Poison' too (speaking of, a guy with a horrible voice was just singing that in the salad place and I had to turn away because I couldn't stop laughing.) Then the Chemical Brothers came on, the energy was strong and the crowd was definitely enjoying it. They opened with 'Galvanize.' Here's a video:

The visuals were great:

I only actually own one of their albums and a couple of their singles so I was slightly disappointed that they only played a few songs I knew (no Noel Gallagher collaborations or 'The Test', oh wells me.) Also, I'd never been to McCarren before because god forbid I travel all the way from my house to Williamsburg (I always forget about the G train which is crap anyway, but it actually only took me 45 minutes from Union Tpke. to the pool.) So anyways, what a great place for a show! So spacious, no one stepped on me, and it was easy to dance, it was by far a better version of Central Park Summerstage.

Afterwards Faith and Kristine hosted a girls night out starting at their apartment (which ended up being girls night out plus my brother in the end.) We went to Branch; I've never been a huge fan of that place, but since I've come back from the UK, I'm into my new philosophy of Every Bar Deserves A Second Chance (very nice of me considering I'm the pickiest person when it comes to Manhattan venues - though I know my birthday choice doesn't show much for that.) It was fine, we danced a lot, saw some visiting Brits, and oh yeah, the DJ was a TOTAL ASSHOLE. He wouldn't take my friends' requests, but instead of being nice about it, he was a big cock. We ended up dancing in front of him to 'Umbrella' sticking our middle fingers up at him to the beat throughout the song, he even made an announcement over the mic that he was"getting really aggravated here." Good, because you're an asshole!

Pour Some Sugar Crap On Me

I forgot to post photos from my birthday. Well, I actually didn't take any photos when we were out (did I mention that a supposed professional basketball player hit on me via his friend? I don't think he really was who he said he was though.) Anyways, back at Heather's place we had donuts (drunken purchase) and in the spirit of Mount Flounder, we decided to play Mount Erica (because that's what you do when you turn 28.)
Yeah, me and Heather are immature.

Also my boyfriend is the best!

A Blog Post No One of the Male Sex Will Care About

Once again I was ultra lame this weekend. Friday night was, well Friday night so there was no going out. Saturday I was sick with a cold and sinus pain (cannot wait to jump the Ear, Nose, and Throat Dr. once I get insurance.) I skipped on going out and instead watched an America's Next Top Model marathon. On Sunday I went to the city for Vicki's bridal shower at Merchants.

Vicki got tons of gifts

Some had cute wrapping

Most were for the homeSome were sexySome were confusing Binghamton chicks - Mark's wife Sara, Julie, Moi, Lauren, Vicki, Thom's sister, & Robyn The Bouquet of BowsHopefully the car had a big trunk

Is it just me or was Prison Break not that good last night?

I've got the rest of my week lined up for TV watching. Tonight is the Big Brother 8 finale (I only care about seeing their faces when they find out about Eric being America's player, I couldn't care less who wins at this point), tomorrow night is the ANTM premiere as well as that new show Gossip Girls, then new Survivor on Thursday which is great because I haven't been able to watch it in two years.

Also, don't eat the tuna sushi from Food Emporium, it gave me a stomach ache.

They Say It's My Birthday

Wow, everyone's been so amazing today! Thanks for all of the birthday wishes, I REALLY appreciated them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On to the news of the week...

So, I've started my new temp job at MTV in the Games department. This one is going to last pretty much forever until I find permanent employment. I don't think there will be many music freebies unfortunately but one can always pray. As for games, I don't own any consoles so oh well.

This past weekend was crazy in Croatia. Vicki's sister Alexandra got married on Friday and had a baby on Saturday (nice timing!) Also I am so happy to hear that Maristela and Barnaby got engaged! YEAH!!!!!!!

I think the Britney-bashing has gone a bit over-the-top (no pun intended, swear to God!) Yes, she put in a weak performance but if anything it seemed it was because she was nervous and pushed into it. The funniest part of this article though is definitely at the top of the page in the "STORY HIGHLIGHTS" section:

  • Britney Spears' performance met with disbelief and mockery
  • Observer: "She soooo should have stayed home. ...What was the point?"
  • Jermaine Dupri bought tequila for everyone

Lol! Who gives a rat's ass, seriously!!!

It's really icky out today. I'm just going to go home after work, watch Big Brother (Donatos you suck), and read Harry Potter. I'm also praying that my parents got me chocolate fudge birthday cake.

Thanks again everyone!

My Best Friend's Wedding

I made it to England in one piece. I even breezed through immigration, hoorah!
Heather and I had some colas in the airport before take off. I met Dave at Victoria, spent the day with him falling in and out of sleep (I think I was up for about 30 hours in all) and headed to St. Albans to meet up with the girls for dinner. We ate at Zizzi and had a drink at Slug and Lettuce.

This was only after one drink.
We went back to the room to give Liz some gifts. This was the engraved frame. Sexy undies Had to be done

FYI: The garter isn't supposed to go on your headMore sexy sexy

It looked good at the time but was disintegrating by the end of the evening. This is Graham's dad making a speech. Our table was fun (Me, Dave, Andy, Rob, Alex, Emily, Lucy, & Craig), we made bets on the speeches. We had each written a word on paper and picked them out of a cup, every time your word was mentioned in the speeches (mine was family) we had to drink. We also put a pound each in the cup based on how long the speeches would be in total. I wrote 7 minutes for the three of them while everyone put between 30 minutes and an hour. Um, what?! Turned out they really were 37 minutes in total. Heather bought us a round of half-pints with her winnings while we used the mini-teapot placecard holders as cufflinks, earrings, and dress decorations.Jamie's speechDespite eating it, I still think the cake was made of fabricTheir wedding dance was to 'By Your Side' by SadeIn addition to 'Best Couple', Dave also won the 'Best Tie' award from the bride herselfI have several photos of Andy in mid-dance like this oneLaura was looking mighty fine with her brunette hair and Central American tanNottingham group with bride and tequila (Liz was drinking snakebites too...in her white dress?!?!)GoodBetterBestSambucaWe were doing some spinning dance thing (this was after we did the Kid n Play)The following day, Graham's parents had a BBQ for the guests. I really wish I had tried that tiramisu.
The following day, Dave and I went to Nando's (had to) and walked around the center for a bit. We met Joy for a drink (congrats on the new job!!) and then met Erica, who with Heather missed their flight :/ Directing her from Gatwick to Carnaby Street was actually not too hard though, even with the tube strike.
Speaking of C. Street, I'd never noticed this air conditioning vent before-
I think it's a rule that I have to find and pose with giant dinosaurs every time I visit London.
This is Dave making the "proud dad" face.

It's surprisingly still boiling in New York. I think I'm okay with that. Bohemian Beer Garden tonight methinks, though will it be any fun if I'm the designated driver?
