Friendster - Not A Friend of Mine

I'm in a fight with Friendster right now. I most definitely do not like the sudden addition of a new feature which allows you to see WHO HAS BEEN VIEWING YOUR PROFILE!!! Now every person I've stalked over the last month can see that I've looked at them, is there anything more embarrassing? This is a serious betrayal to members. Supposedly Friendster wasn't supposed to start showing profile viewers from the past month but there was some glitch and they are trying to fix this. Anyway, you can still stalk people annonymously - all you have to do is go to your settings and select view profiles anonymously. I'm still staying on Friendster despite this current embarassment, I'm too lazy to join MySpace.

This is really funny but don't watch it at work: http://www.thebsquad.com/movies/9^Puberty-Pals.swf

Girl You Know Its True

I had a dream last night that I was on an airplane. This was one of the bigger international-type airplanes where there was a row of three, then four in the middle and then three again. The cockpit was based in the center of the plane where the bathrooms would normally be and my seat was facing it. For some reason the cockpit door was open and the two pilots had stepped out. Then two terrorists entered the cockpit and took control over the aircraft. And these two terrorists were Milli Vanilli, complete with their blue and red outfits and dreadlocks. The plane made a crazy downward dip to the right, I started yelling that we were in trouble and luckily buckled my seatbelt before I could have potentially gone flying done the aisle. I kept repeating something out loud (I can't remember what) and we were going down very fast but luckily right before we were about to crash the pilots were able to get them out of the cockpit, got back in their seats and managed to have the airplane wheels come down a few seconds before landing perfectly. And that was it.

I'm drunk.

Fifty Million Reasons Loving in the Seasons

I just came back from seeing Shack at the Islington Academy. Nobody I know here has heard of them which puzzles me because although the venue is small (comparable to Bowery Ballroom) the place was filled with an excited (Northern) crowd. The only reason I know of the band is because back in either 2000 or 2001 I won some contest on the local Binghamton radio station and I received Shack's "HMS Fable" cd and a cd by some guy named Phillip Bailey who looks like Barry White. Anyway I loved Shack's cd but could never find anything about them on the internet. I just found out today that apparently they've been around for 20 years, who knew?? The first thing I thought when they came out was "Whoa, old!!" (just as the crowd was) but they put on a really good show and are a bit of a jammy band; I could definitely see them as an OAR opening act. Even though they didn't play my favorite song, Cornish Town, and they tricked us into thinking they were coming back for a second encore, I still enjoyed it.

On another note, I need to get a job. An American girl on my course just got a job at Starbucks. This is actually very good considering she makes the equivalent to $10.24/hour...just for making coffee! I really want to apply to HMV but then I'd have to pay for the bus there and I don't really feel like doing that.

I also visited two gyms yesterday. The first one, in Camden, I really liked but it comes out to a student discount of $989.16/year (via 3 month contracts), or $82.43/month which is definitely not in my budget. Plus I'd have to do the 10 minute walk which for someone going to the gym shouldn't be annoying but just is. Then there's the fitness center that is literally 30 seconds from my apt., but you have to pay about $10.60 every time you go! It's even more money to attend a class, which you have to reserve a spot in at least 24 hours before, and if you fail to cancel you still have to pay. That's total crap so now I'm not sure what I'm doing.

Graham and Alex's friend Rich is currently getting his appendix removed, ouch!

I Heart Podcasts

I've just discovered the best thing ever. I was on the CBS website reading a month's worth of Guiding Light recaps and they do podcasts!!! I've never actually downloaded one before but I've just learned how and am now listening to last Monday's episode. For anyone who hasn't listened to one, it's pretty funny. There's a narrator that says things like "Now in the boardroom..." and then the characters speak. And without the commercials its only a half an hour per episode, so I can listen to one on the bus ride to school tomorrow. It's my last first day of class ever, weird. I've got International Relations 1, hopefully it will go okay.

I also learned something else new today. I found a book on the artist/photographer Man Ray. The book caught my eye because of the Futureheads song with the same title. I've never heard of this guy, so I browsed through the book and what did I find?? Black and white photographs of people (mostly women and mostly naked) touching themselves. Now I finally understand the song (well, two lines of it at least!) The lyrics are:

It gives me manray
It's what we like
It gives me weston
Touch eachother in black and white
Eia eia eieieia, eia eia eieieia, eia eia eieieia..

Where did your hands go
When you thought i was your life
I could see his hands
They were touching you all night

And where did your hands go
When you thought i was your life
I could see his hands
They were touching you all night
Touching you all night night night

Touch yourself, touch yourself, touch eachother in black and white
Touch yourself, touch yourself, touch eachother in black and white
Touch yourself, touch yourself, touch eachother in black and white
Touch yourself, touch yourself, touch eachother in black and white

Give me manray
It's what we like
Give me weston
Touch eachother in black and white

Touch yourself touch yourself, touch eachother in black and white
Touch yourself, touch yourself, touch eachother in black and white
Touch yourself, touch yourself, touch eachother in black and white
Touch yourself, touch yourself, touch eachother in black and white

It sounds funnier when you sing it.

The First Time Is Scary

So, I've decided to conform to society and start a blog. I am doing so for the following reasons:
1. I am too lazy to write in a journal.
2. I am too lazy to write e-mails to my friends.
3. As of yesterday I have been able to steal a wireless connection from somewhere so I'd like to take advantage of it.

I guess for my first blog entry I should start with something good. Hmm, a Meredith hook-up story, everyone loves those!

I was in a mellow mood last night, but slightly annoyed at first due to the 9:55 pm Silverlink train being cancelled. This was because "there was no driver available." What?? Who does that? Anyway, I didn't mind too much because the train is literally 30 seconds from my flat (sorry, have to speak like I'm English now) so I just went home for a bit and headed back for the 10: 15 pm train. My typical luck, there were more delays when I arrived back at the station. I was still excited though because apparantly no one checks for tickets on this line so its pretty much always free!! I mean unless you get caught but I don't think that will happen any time soon. So, some guy appears on the other side of the tracks and yells out at myself and two guys next to me asking which side is the train towards Brondesbury. It was our side so he jumps onto the tracks (again, who does that??) with his bike (okay, really who does that??) and jumps up and over to me. After a short conversation about wanting to get his legs waxed (apparantly bikers do this? I don't know anything) he tried to kiss me. He was cute and everything (actually REALLY cute) but I didn't want to be a ho on the platform, plus he was really drunk. I tried my hardest to back away from him for the next ten minutes or so but I eventually gave in. After all, I've never kissed a random guy on a train platform prior to going out (or in general for that matter), plus he was South African, YUM!!!! It was much better than the guy who mouth-raped me at the Camden Barfly the night before. He wanted to get off at my stop and I said no and that was that. So, that's my random story for the weekend.

As for going out last night, before heading into a proper club, Laura and I wanted to go into (the?) Cane Bar in West Hampstead but they were having a private party (this was pretty obvious by the "PRIVATE PARTY" sign outside.) We decided to take a chance and follow two people going in acting as if we belonged there. We headed to the bar and asked for two beers, only to find out it was an OPEN BAR!!!! I'm usually honest but I couldn't not take advantage. One white russian, three cosmos and a few hors d'eouvres later I was a very happy patron (despite the fact that we had to sit in the corner and not speak to anyone for fear of being found out.) We went to another club later but were exhausted so we left after five minutes. Laura learned the correct way to walk back to her apt in Kilburn (unlike the last time when we wandered around for 20 minutes before finding a taxi) so we were home very quickly. Good night overall.
