Flower Power

I've been meaning to ask - does anyone know why half of the yellow taxis in Manhattan have flowers painted on their hoods and trunks? It's really...random. I'm thinking maybe it's for one of the following:

• To identify those who are boycotting GPS systems
• To make some statement about global warming/using some earth-friendly fuel
